Ashwini Asokan is the CEO, co-founder of Mad Street Den, an Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision startup in Chennai and San Francisco. Mad Street Den enables businesses to deliver exciting new experiences to their consumers with AI, while also increasing engagement with their products in unique ways. Ashwini recently returned to India from Silicon Valley after more than a decade, to bootstrap her startup which she founded with her husband, Anand Chandrasekaran, a neuroscientist. As a product designer and cultural researcher, she has been interested in exploring how Artificial Intelligence can be brought out of the Science and Tech labs of the world, applied meaningfully and put in the hands of people everywhere.
Ashwini actively drives discussions on social media and writes often on the role and status of women in tech and particularly, entrepreneurship. She's a big proponent of 'levelling the playing field', actively working to create a diverse workforce while also designing spaces and cultures that accommodate women in different stages of their lives. Her startup reflects her principles in this space - an equal ratio of men to women, spaces for nursing moms, flex hours, a 'Back to work' trainee program for mothers who've taken a break, equal pay for men and women in similar roles.
