How can Indian governance step up in the time of the pandemic? : Simar Suri

The head of the International Practice Group at Suri & Company Law Firm, in her decade long experience as a practicing lawyer, Simar Suri has been engaged in several matters closely connected to effective global governance. In addition to this, she established established the Social Welfare and Public Policy practice within the Law Firm.

She has spearheaded several legal programs targeting improved public health from tobacco control.

As the youngest associate member and sole lawyer on the Independent Commission on Development and Health, she has advised cabinet-level policymakers on issues that have a direct impact on all the primary stakeholders. She also has first-hand knowledge of how global connections can benefit policy and governance, selected to represent India at the East Asia Future Leaders Programme in Japan under the aegis of the Japan–East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youth (JENESYS) Programme in 2010.

She is currently working closely with the COVID Consultative Group set up under the guidance of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka and Dr. Vishal Rao as an advisor for legal and government affairs.

Suri graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK, after after completing an honours degree in Philosophy from St. Stephens College, Delhi University.
