On directing Indian blockbuster films

Award-winning Bollywood director Zoya Akhtar learned about cinematography, screenplay and critiquing films at an early age from her parents who are also prominent in the Bollywood film industry. In this candid interview with INK’s Lakshmi Pratury, Zoya shares her thought process and inspiration behind her hit films “Luck by Chance” and “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara”. Zoya’s blockbuster film “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” has even earned her praise from the King of Spain, who has offered her a knighthood.

Zoya Akhtar is an Indian Bollywood film director. She made her directorial debut with Luck By Chance’ in 2009 and has won the Filmfare Award for Best Director for the multistarrer, critically acclaimed and commercially successful movie ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’. She had been an assistant director for films such as Lakshya, Dil Chahta Hai and Bombay Boys. Apart from movies, she has also appeared on the small screen advertisements for brands such as Finolex and Pepsi. Her latest release was an Indian punjabi film drama ‘Dil Dhadkne Do’.
